Mothers Against Methamphetamine
Prison Ministry Reaching
Out to Inmates
Much of the support you give us at
Mothers Against Methamphetamine goes
into sustaining our nationwide prison
ministry. We get 25-30 letters per day
from inmates requesting Power Over
Addiction workbooks. These inmates
complete the course of study including an
over view of the brain and its function. The
Power Over Addiction course includes the
effects of nicotine, alcohol, cocaine, heroin,
methamphetamine and other drugs of abuse
on the brain and personality of the user. It
also includes an extensive section on the
power of God in the Person of Jesus Christ
to deliver addicts from the bondage of
addiction.
Listen to one of their stories.
“I want to thank you for your program. Seeing
what I’ve put my brain and body through is
pretty scary! I also was very pleased to see
that you put our Lord God into the program.
Thank you for telling your brother’s story.
I’ve been through withdrawals (painful – very
painful) physically, mentally, and emotionally.
I still have many cravings, but now when I
do, I recognize them easier. I never realized
my choice of music could be an influence.
Now I’ve taken a look at my lifestyle and it’s
become easier to avoid triggers. I’m in prison
and drugs are EVERYWHERE. I’ve changes
my group of acquaintances and try to talk to
God and read His word several times a day.
It’s become the one thing I look forward to
each day. Thank you for opening my eyes and
helping me find the real me.”
Inmates complete an assessment test
covering the material in the Power Over
Addiction workbook and send it in to receive
a Certificate of Completion they can put in
their prison file. The tests are reviewed by
our staff and we keep each reply because it is
a written record of someone coming to faith
in Jesus Christ and accepting His forgiveness
and love.
Here is an excerpt from one inmate.
77. Q: Can you write down the things you’ve
done that you are ashamed of?
A: Yes, I lied, stole, cheated, and took
advantage of the people I love.
78. Q: Can you let Jesus’ death be for you
too?
A: yes.
79. Q: How does it feel to be forgiven?
A: It feels good. A weight lifted off my
shoulder and I don’t hold as much guilt.
It’s like a fresh new start.
80. Q: Can you forgive yourself?
A: Eventually yes. It will take some time
We receive between 100 and 150 of these
tests to score each week. Each one is a
child of God coming to understand the vast
riches of His grace. This is in addition to our
local ministry in the Marshall County Jail in
Alabama. With your help we can continue this
rich and dynamic prison ministry to addicts.
Each one is a life changed by your giving to
Mothers Against Methamphetamine.
Methamphetamine and AIDS
Mothers Against
Methamphetamine recently
participated in the International
Conference on AIDS in
Vienna, Austria. Dr. Holley
presented Mothers Against
Methamphetamine’s literature
and research on the connection
between meth and HIV to
an international audience.
Methamphetamine is associated
with increased rates of all
sexually transmitted diseases
including
HIV. Meth
stimulates
increased
sexual
desire and
prolonged
rougher
sexual
encounters.
It also
promotes
sexual
promiscuity in the “sex for dope” economy
of the drug world. Many
meth users are careless and
apathetic about “safe sex” even
when they know they are HIV
positive.
Methamphetamine is a blood
vessel constrictor that leads
to dry mucous membranes
and increases the likelihood of
abrasions and ulcerations. All
these factors contribute to the
high incidence of HIV among
methamphetamine users.
Methamphetamine is also an
immunosuppressant. It disables
the body’s natural resistance
to HIV making it more likely
that those exposed to HIV will
actually become infected with it.
Methamphetamine users are
less likely to be adequately
treated for their HIV. The
medication regimens are
difficult for a sober person to
follow. Intoxicated meth users
are very likely to miss doses
and develop drug resistance.
Meth using HIV patients are
more likely to develop brain
degeneration called AIDS
Dementia, and it progresses
more rapidly in HIV patients
who use methamphetamine.
Meth and HIV are not confined
to the homosexual population.
More than 63% of adolescents
who are involved with drug
abuse also engage in five or
more unsafe sexual practices.
The incidence of HIV is rising in
these teenagers.
Our national public health is
at risk when people mix meth
and HIV.
Back to School
Children are starting back to school this time of year, and we at Mothers want to provide your
children with quality drug education materials. The High is a Lie is our video production for
use in the schools. It includes brain scans and diagrams demonstrating the damage caused by
methamphetamine, as well as the story of a young man who became addicted to methamphetamine
and ultimately lost his life. The video is available for $34.95 at www.mamasite.net or 256-498-6262.
We have a short pamphlet also called The High is a Lie as a companion piece to the video.
We also have printed materials for use in the schools. Meth Death is a booklet for high school
aged kids that summarizes the material in the High is a Lie DVD, along with information about
marijuana and how to approach your parents about a drug problem.
Kids REACT to Methamphetamine is a booklet for children in the 3rd to 6th grades describing
the effects of methamphetamine and other drugs including alcohol and nicotine in terms they can
understand. It follows the story of a girl and her cat as they explore good choices and bad choices
For younger children we have a children’s activity book called Growing Up Healthy that teaches
children aged 3 – 7 about methamphetamine and other drugs of abuse using a storybook format with
activities for younger children.
All of these materials are available on our website www.mamasite.net or at 256-498-6262.

Methamphetamine National

Church Ambassador
Program
Our local fundraising activities are not sufficient to finance a
nationwide ministry to addicts and families. God speaks through
His Church and determines which ministries He wants to
continue, and what He wants to accomplish through them. He
inspired our Church Ambassador Program as a way of helping you
mobilize your church in the fight against addiction.
We have a free seven minute video, “Calming the Storm: The
Power of Jesus Christ Over Addiction” and supporting printed
material to help you express to your church how the Holy Spirit
has touched your life or the life of someone you love through
Mothers Against Methamphetamine.
When you sign up to be a Church Ambassador for Mothers
Against Methamphetamine, we will contact you and provide you
with the video, pledge cards and envelopes, posters and letters
of support. In cooperation with your pastor, you can inspire your
church to support Mothers Against Methamphetamine and its
mission to free addicts in the name of Jesus.
You can enroll as a Mothers Against Methamphetamine church
ambassador by registering on our website, www.mamasite.net or
by calling us at 256-498-6262.
